BOW WOW READING DOGS

The unconditional presence of a dog improves reading skills

The Dog Alliance Bow Wow Reading Dogs are non-judgmental certified therapy dogs who listen to at-risk students reading aloud. The dog's handler has been educated on how to help at-risk readers learn to read. Many of our Bow Wow Reading dog volunteers are retired teachers or principals.

" I just want to say that after the Bow Wow Reading Dogs visited, when the kids took the STAAR test, all of them were so nice and calm. One of the girls that had always failed math STAAR, passed and said that having that time with the dogs made her feel so much better. I was so pleased with the professionalism and love that the handlers have for their pups! Can we schedule you on a regular basis?"

VOLUNTEER

The heart and soul of our organization

As a non-profit, volunteers are a key driver of our ability to serve veterans, children and seniors.

We are committed to creating a volunteer force that is more representative of the populations we serve. We welcome unique perspectives and experiences in terms of national origin, culture, socioeconomic background, ethnicity, race, color, sex, gender identity and expression, education, age, languages spoken, veteran status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and beliefs, which help us strengthen our impact.

We offer opportunities to handle a therapy dog, raise a future service dog in your home, participate in a work-sponsored clean-up day or provide needed services such as cleaning windows, taking photos and more.  What are your special skills you would like to share with us?

If you are interested in volunteering with your dog, you can get ready by taking a puppy manners, dog manners, dog manners 2 and or canine good citizen class.  Check out our course catalog.
